If you are looking for an incredible yet affordable European city, Prague is an excellent choice! And if you (understandably) don’t want to blindly believe a stranger, we have broken out the cost of our trip to Prague to prove it.
After spending a few weeks in Western Europe, our credit card statements from Prague were a breath of fresh air! We only spent about 270 USD more for 9 days in Prague than we did for 4 days in Sweden!
For 41.71 USD per night (375.43 USD total for 9 nights) we were able to get a nice studio apartment.
It was about a 30-minute walk away from the city center, which we understand isn’t what everyone is looking for. It was perfect for what we were looking for, though!
30 minutes sounds like a lot, but it always went by so fast. The journey offers captivating sights, and Prague’s cool vibe extends far beyond the city center.
Below is a picture of the view we had from the park outside of the AirBnB! We definitely couldn’t complain about that!
Being a little further away, we were able to see a lot of locals hanging out and enjoying each other’s company with a good pivo (beer).
We would not have gotten this perspective if we had always been among the chaos of Prague’s city center where tourists and souvenir shops go as far as the eye can see.
The cost of going out to eat in Prague is SIGNIFICANTLY more affordable than in the Western European countries we have visited!
Our total of 300 USD for 9 days includes eating out for almost every single meal!! Our most expensive meal (pictured below) only cost us about 30 USD for 2 entrees and a round of drinks, and it was maybe the best meal either of us have ever had!
Prague just generally has some of the best food we’ve ever tasted, and we dream about it constantly. We even attempted to remake our favorite dish, Svíčková, once we were back in the US. But it doesn’t compare to the real thing (especially at the price).
To stick to a tight budget, pay attention to what part of the city you are choosing to eat in.
Trying to find an affordable restaurant in the middle of popular tourist areas can easily make you feel like you are finding food in Western Europe. Walking a few blocks away from these areas will lead you to more affordable options (that are still ridiculously delicious!).
There are some places within the center that have reasonable prices, but they are harder to find. It’s much more reliable to take a 15-30 minute walk to check out some more local places.
Since restaurants were so affordable, the only groceries we got were some snacks throughout the week and a quick meal to carry on our 8-hour bus ride to Budapest.
If we were to have stayed for longer than a week, though, we probably would have done some more grocery shopping as our AirBnB came with a nice, small kitchen.
We really got our steps in while we were exploring Prague!
Despite going all over the city most days, we only used public transportation to get us from the airport to our AirBnB on our first day. Because of that, most of our transportation total is made up of our flight from Copenhagen which cost a total of 136.80 USD. The two 24-hour passes we got on that first day cost us 10 USD.
We also spent one day visiting Pardubice, a nearby town in the Czech Republic. Our train tickets to get there and back cost 27 USD.
By the way, Pardubice was an amazing stop we would definitely recommend and we wish we had more time there. Due to our short stay, we won’t have a standalone post for it. But it definitely deserves some recognition and we would love to go back someday!
Compared to the tourist-centric city center of Prague, it felt more like an ordinary town. People were walking around doing their normal day-to-day things which we always enjoy being around.
We also got an amazing koláč which we had been craving since arriving! Overall, the day was well worth the hour-long train ride.
For travel insurance, we got a quote of 162 USD from World Nomads for two people (both 23) from Colorado, traveling to the Czech Republic for 9 days.
Travel insurance is an incredibly important thing to consider when planning a trip. Just keep in mind that this price may vary depending on your situation and the type of travel insurance you are looking for.
The only activities we spent money on while we were in Prague were two tickets to the Czech Museum of Cubism.
This museum sits in an extremely cool building and had some really interesting artwork. The museum attendant who we got to speak with briefly over Google translate was also incredibly nice, as was everyone else we interacted with.
Last but not least, we picked up just a few souvenirs for 18.24 USD to bring back to our families.
You definitely will not have any trouble finding souvenir shops in Prague. They seem to be about every other building depending on what part of the city you are in.
If you like bringing gifts back home, be prepared for this to take up a larger chunk of your budget.
I hope this post is helpful in budgeting your own trip to Prague!
Like nearly everywhere else we’ve traveled, Prague left us feeling a need to come back. I know we didn’t fully appreciate anywhere near all it had to offer (as seen by the lack of spending on activities) and we could have ventured into even more parts of the city. We loved wandering around the city center, but I wish we had spent more time in other neighborhoods as well. There’s just so much more to see!
Remember that being conscious about where you go and stay in Prague can open the city up to being an incredible budget destination. Safe travels!

Modern Talking был немецким дуэтом, сформированным в 1984 году. Он стал одним из самых ярких представителей евродиско и популярен благодаря своему неповторимому звучанию. Лучшие песни включают “You’re My Heart, You’re My Soul”, “Brother Louie”, “Cheri, Cheri Lady” и “Geronimo’s Cadillac”.
